As is known to all, the difference between crude oil pipeline and natural gas pipeline is medium. In addition, there are several other differences between them.

Different sources of power

Different flow speed requirements

Crude oil pipeline and gas pipeline speed requirements are different in the same flowing, one should be faster, the other should be slower. In the process of transportation, crude oil will exchange heat through the pipe wall and the surrounding soil and gradually approach the soil temperature. In order to avoid the pipe failure caused by the slow flow rate or the excessive temperature drop, the minimum transportation capacity of the high pour point crude pipeline is generally set. The natural gas pipeline does not have the low transportation quantity related question, but it requests the flow velocity not to be too quick, which generally does not exceed 10 meters/seconds.

Different storage capacity

The capacity of the oil and gas pipeline is fixed, but the compressibility of liquid and gas is different, the crude oil pipeline and the natural gas pipeline have different pipe stocks. Crude oil has poor compressibility, and the stock of crude oil pipeline does not change with pressure. The natural gas as a gas, compression performance is better. The average pressure on the pipeline is higher, the tube will be greater storage.

Different temperature requirements

China crude oil pour point is generally higher. The pour point of crude oil is about 27 degrees Celsius, which is far higher than the surrounding soil temperature of the pipeline (generally not more than 6 DEG C in winter). In order to prevent the pipeline from clogging during the transportation process, the crude oil pipeline shall be provided with heating facilities along the pipeline, and the crude oil will be heated to 70 degrees out of the station to ensure that the temperature of the downstream access is not less than 33 degrees C. Natural gas pipeline is not the same, the lower the natural gas temperature, the more conducive to transportation.

Different pressure drop law

Due to the existence of frictional resistance, there are energy losses during the transportation of oil and gas pipelines, so pressure will reduce as increased conveying distance. But the pressure drop law of crude oil pipeline and natural gas pipeline is different, one is straight line, and the other is parabola. Crude oil pipeline pressure drop rate is uniform, which is proportional to the distance between lines, and average pressure is in the 1/2 position of pipeline ; While the natural gas pipeline pressure drop is generally from slow to fast. The pressure drop and the conveying distance are parabolic.

Different environmental impacts

The long oil and gas pipeline is linear engineering, and it is inevitable to go through various environmental sensitive areas, such as nature reserves and water sources, but crude oil pipelines and natural gas pipelines have different impacts on the environment. Once the crude oil pipeline leaks, it will cause pollution of the environment, and in particular, it will cause a fire that the consequences will be very serious. But even if the natural gas pipeline leaks, the valve chamber will close automatically at both ends of the leak point, the impact of that is relatively small on the surrounding environment.
